The Meyers' Story

I came to purchase two Tonkinese kittens from Pat Moore quite my chance. In September of 2000, I had gone to a cat show in Columbus, Ohio where I purchased 2 Tonkinese Kittens from a Breeder that held/holds a position in the TBA (Tonkinese Breed Association). Following the sales agreement both kittens were taken to the vet for a check-up within the three days allowed by contract. It was at this first vet check that I was informed that the kittens were ill and were placed on medications. I called the breeder and was told that it was nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, it turned out to be feline herpes.

Since I have other cats in my home and the herpes virus is very contagious it was impossible to keep such kittens due to the risk presented to the other cats in the home. I sent out emails to every breeder I could find to alert them that this had occurred so they would avoid contact with cats/kittens form the infected breeders cattery. That email was not met with a warm reception. The majority of the breeders defended their cohorts by taking the stance that my vet was incompetent. Those breeders were also the ones that show their cats and kittens.

This is where Pat came in... She responded in a positive way to my email. She gave me moral support, helped me find the strength to return the sick kitten to the breeder. She put me in touch with other Tonkinese buyers that had gone through a bad experience. We were all dealing with the disappointment due to loss and heart ache. It had become a support group via email. For me it was this support that aided me in my decision to try two kittens again. This time I purchased from Pat Moore for several reasons a) her support of my crisis, b) the fact she doesn’t show her cats, c) her contract allows for 10 days versus the 3 I was given by first breeder to see a vet, d) Pat gives a health guarantee for 6 months, e) Pat’s vet is available to answer any questions pertaining to the kittens.

Even though I know of several other breeders in the Ohio area, I committed to Pat to purchase two kittens in December 2002. My only regret was I didn’t purchase three. Something I plan to correct in May 2003.

If you are considering a Tonkinese by all means purchase from Pat Moore. Should you want to discuss any part of this note contact Pat she has my permission to forward my address.
