Wildameyers are native to Newburgh, Indiana and are more fun when purchased in groups of two or more.

The story of how the Wildameyer came to be:

In 2002, one of my customers bought a Tonkinese kitten in California from a breeder who will go unnamed. His name was Zeus, and shortly after the kitten came home, he became very sick and was finally diagnosed with FIP by way of a necropsy. During his short life, his owner treasured him and carried him around with her everywhere. During the end of his short life, he could no longer walk and she started calling him her little Zeusameyer. How she loved her Zeusameyer.

After six months, they wanted another kitten and took their adult cats in to be tested. Thankfully, their titer count came back negative. So the search for a new Zeusameyer commenced. I had known of her sad story and was delighted to hear from her when she called asking if I had any male Champagne Point kittens. I did and she was so excited that she decided to get two since she was flying all the way from California. She decided to name the Point, Zeus II/Zeusameyer and the Champagne Mink that I picked out for her Mercury/Mercameyer.

While her kittens were growing, she called often to see how her Zeusameyer and Mercameyer were doing. I had plenty of kittens running around at the time and I said, “Good Lord, they’re all Wildameyers!” That was it; the name is forever etched in history.

On her plane trip out to pick up her kittens, she was carrying an empty cat carrier. Naturally folks are curious so it created quite a stir. They asked why she was flying from California to pick up a kitten in Indiana, and that it must be a very special cat. She told them that they were indeed special. When asked what breed they were, she replied “Tonkinese.” No one knew what a Tonkinese was. So on her return trip, with the kittens snuggling together in their carrier, she got similar comments, “they must be pretty special cats for you to fly all this way to get them in the dead of winter; what are they?” She replied, they are Wildameyers, a very special breed indeed and you can only get them in one place, Indiana!

Characteristics of a Wildameyer:

• You think you own them, but they really own you.
• They are more fun in groups.
• They are more ravenous than crocodile. They love to eat and will haunt you until you feed them. This may start as early as 6am.
• They have two speeds – ON or OFF. They will charge around your house like buffalo with this wild look in their eye. Then quietly find a comfortable spot to sleep in.

They love to play and I've never seen anything play so fast!

• I send every one of my kittens home with little glitter balls and colored fuzzy balls. You will usually find them with one in their mouth growling at the other because they think they’ve caught something really special. In fact, Zeusameyer and Mercameyer’s mom reports that, “the boys are filling up our huge bathtub with toys and playing hockey in the tub during the middle of the night. We hear them in there growling and we think they like it because it makes them sound ferocious.”
• They adore their human parents, you find that they love to curl up in your lap while you’re relaxing and they’re known to take over an entire king size bed when you’re trying to sleep.
• They think that you are their own personal kitty condo and will jump onto your shoulder from the floor to purr loudly in your ear. Take special note if you dye your hair, Wildameyers have very light fur and one rub against your head, will make a “Colormeyer.”
• They think that they are hair stylists and will lick your hair until they style it to their liking or you tell them to stop.
• They do not tolerate closed doors, and will usually find a way to open them.
• They get along with all types of pets.

And you can see from this picture that they are especially fond of one of my customer’s African Grey parrot!
